Completing a transaction

There are two types of listings that can exist on GunAddicts.com: Fixed-price and auction-style.

***Once you bid on an item in an auction-style listing, or purchase an item through a fixed-price listing, you are obligated and committed to completing the transaction. Failure to complete your end of the transaction may result in negative feedback being submitted affecting your membership rating. Additionally you may receive a warning from GunAddicts.com which could lead to the suspension or termination of your membership.

GunAddicts.com is an interactive-based listing service which allows its members to buy and sell firearms, and other related items privately without having to disclose any personal information until the transaction is completed. At no time does any of your personal information stored with GunAddicts.com become shared with any other members.

Similar to paper-based classifieds, GunAddicts.com only facilitates the transaction between the buyer and seller and at no time becomes involved with any aspect of the transaction from a financial, ownership, or registration perspective. GunAddicts.com is not a store and does not own or possess goods, inventory or firearms to any extent. Transactions conducted using GunAddicts.com are done purely between the buyer and seller of the transaction.

Once the transaction is completed

1.) Once a transaction has been completed the buyer and seller should contact each other within 48 hours using the built-in private messaging system and exchange payment, address and shipping information.

2.) After payment is made by the buyer, the seller should ship the item to the buyer.

3.) GunAddicts.com uses a member rating system to identify members who have made successful transactions as sellers and buyers. Be sure to leave feedback for your transaction once completed. This can easily be done from the listing itself via the Leave Feedback link. More information on leaving feedback can be found under the Member Ratings section of our forums: viewforum.php?f=23

In the case of a firearms sale, the buyer and seller must follow established procedures in accordance with the law. Below is a general guideline for firearms sale, however you should contact the CFC at 1-800-713-4000 who will guide you through the exact process.

For a firearms related sale

Detailed information on the 'transfer process of firearms' is located under the 'Firearms FAQ' section of our forums. Please review this information for more details through this link: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=13

Typically however, this is the process for completing a person-to-person transaction for firearms in Canada:

1) Buyer wins auction, or buys a listing.

2) Seller requests from the buyer the following:
-payment instructions (ie. money order, cash, EMT, certified cheque, etc..)
-required shipping information
-required transfer information such as PAL # (for firearms), full name, address
(Seller should include his real name, address, phone number too)

3) Buyer sends information to Seller, and makes payment.

4) Payment is received by the Seller.

5) The seller calls the RCMP to initiate the transfer of ownership of the firearm. The RCMP will give you a reference number. Write this down. Call 1-800-731-4000. (It is illegal to give, sell or trade a firearm with someone without going through the RCMP!)

6) The buyer calls the RCMP to complete the transfer of ownership of the firearm by calling in with the reference number. They will confirm your address, PAL# and purpose for buying the firearm. That would be target, or competitive shooting for example.

7) The RCMP will send out a certificate showing the new ownership of the firearm. In the meantime, the seller can call the RCMP back to make sure the transfer has been completed before sending or giving the firearm to the buyer.

8.) This next step is really important for the sale of handguns! It is law in Canada that you have a valid ATT anytime you take a handgun out of your house to TRANSPORT it anywhere. This means for example, if the seller DRIVES to the post office to send the item to the buyer, they should call the RCMP and obtain a temporary ATT. It is a serious offense if you are caught transporting your gun to the post office without a valid ATT.

One easier way to give the firearm from the buyer to the seller is to meet at a gun club because if you both already have an ATT, you are both allowed to drive there, and back from your homes where you will store the firearm. Of course this is not possible if the buyer and seller are from different provinces or too far away from each other.

For more detailed information on transporting, firearms , you should call the CFC (Canadian Firearms Center) at 1-800-731-4000 or visit their website at http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf
